General description
YGC Agar is a selective dehydrated culture medium designed for theenumeration and isolation of yeasts and molds, particularly in dairy products. Theformulation contains yeast extract as a source of vitamins, nitrogen, andgrowth factors; D (+)-glucose as a fermentable carbohydrate; agar as thesolidifying agent; and chloramphenicol, which suppresses accompanying bacterialflora while permitting the growth of yeasts and molds. A key practicaladvantage is that this chloramphenicol-containing medium is fully autoclavablewithout loss of selectivity.
