4-（二甲氨基）苯甲醛（DMAB 或 Ehrlich’ 试剂）已用作测定羟脯氨酸水平的显色试剂。它与吡咯和伯胺形成有色缩合产物（席夫碱）。DMAB 也适合作为试剂，用于在纸张表面形成潜在的指纹，从而产生彩色和光致发光的压痕。
