General description

PRRG2 (proline rich Gla (G-carboxyglutamic acid) 2) gene encodes a member of the family of proteins termed proline-rich γ-carboxyglutamic acid (PRRG) proteins. These membrane-proteins contain an extracellular γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) protein domain and WW binding motifs in the cytosolic domain. The WW domain is one of the smallest protein-protein interaction motifs that has been associated with cancer and neurological disorders.

Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

The γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) protein domain in PRRG2 (proline rich Gla (G-carboxyglutamic acid) 2) has been implicated in γ-carboxylation. The abnormal γ-carboxylation that is observed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may be a result of downregulation of this protein.
