Gene Information

human ... PTAFR(5724)

General description

Platelet-activating factor receptor (PTAFR) gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p35.3. PTAFR has seven transmembrane and is expressed in leukocytes, endothelial cells and platelets on the plasma and nuclear membranes. Among the two isoforms, isoform 1 is regulated by inflammation process (Location). Isoform 2 is majorly present in kidney, lungs, spleen and heart.

Immunogen

platelet-activating factor receptor recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Platelet-activating factor receptor (PTAFR) is highly expressed on the airway epithelial cells exposed to cigarette smoke. It also interacts with phosphorylcholine in the microbial cell wall and facilitates its entry in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contributes to the progression of atherosclerosis and polymorphisms in the PTAFR may increase a risk of developing coronary heart disease. It also participates in the inflammation events associated with asthma and may serve as a potential therapeutic target for treating invasive pneumococcal disease.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.2, containing 40% glycerol and 0.02% sodium azide.
