General description
四氧化锇(OsO4)是四面体构型的对称分子，含有第三过渡系过渡金属锇。四氧化锇可作为电镜的染料和非凝固型固定剂，主要用于组织病理学实验室中的生物组织检测。标本用四氧化锇再固定(postfix)可确保脂质保存。
Application
四氧化锇已作为固定剂用于短杆菌Brevibacterium mcbrellneri处理，以及经姜黄素处理的人癌细胞系的扫描电镜观察。还可作为固定剂用于弓形虫Toxoplasma gondii骨骼肌的超微结构分析。
Biochem/physiol Actions
四氧化锇化学性结合脂质，使其不溶；固定后仅余7%的脂质可提取。因此，用四氧化锇固定后，由磷脂组成的细胞膜会变黑且电子密度提高。它还可在石蜡处理过程中固定切片中的少量脂肪。
