General description

该基因编码对半胱氨酸和谷氨酸高度特异性的异源，不依赖钠的阴离子氨基酸转运系统的成员。在称为Xc（-）的该系统中，半胱氨酸的阴离子形式被转运以交换谷氨酸。该蛋白已被确定为卡波西肉瘤相关疱疹病毒融合和进入细胞的主要介体。同样，该基因在原发性神经胶质瘤中的表达增加（与正常脑组织相比）与通过XCT通道的谷氨酸分泌增加有关，导致神经元细胞死亡。
