Gene Information
human ... BAMBI(25805)
General description
BAMBI (bone morphogenic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor) gene codes for a transmembrane glycoprotein which is a pseudo receptor belonging to the family of TGF-β (transforming growth factor β receptor) type I receptors. BAMBI is predominantly expressed in placenta, spleen and kidney medulla and also found liver, prostate, gut and kidney cortex.
This ELISA antibody pair detects Human BAMBI. Other species not yet determined.
Application

Biochem/physiol Actions
BAMBI (bone morphogenic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor) acts as an inhibitor of TGF-β (transforming growth factor β receptor) signalling which causes epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Upregulation of BAMBI gene is observed in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a number of cancer including thyroid, liver, colorectal cancer and ovarian cancer. BAMBI might regulate the events of inflammation and remodeling processes.
