Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions
DRG2 (developmentally regulated GTP binding protein 2) gene belongs to the developmentally regulated GTP-binding protein (DRG) subfamily. The encoded protein is a critical regulator of cell growth and differentiation. Abnormal expression of this gene affects cell transformation. Overexpression of DRG2 affects genes that are involved in the regulation of cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis. Increased expression of this protein leads to accumulation of cells in G2/M phase of the cell cycle. DRG family regulatory protein (DFRP) 1 regulates the expression of DRG2 through specific binding. The gene is localized to human chromosome 17p11.2, a region associated with Smith-Magenis syndrome.
