SLFN14 (schlafen family member 14) belongs to the SLFN family. The protein contains a SLFN box, an AAA (ATPases associated with diverse cellular activities) domain and a putative nuclear localization motif. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 17q12.

SLFN14 (schlafen family member 14) is suggested to function as an endoribonuclease. In rabbit reticulocytes, it controls rRNA and ribosome-associated mRNA cleavage and translational response. Additionally, SLFN14 might be involved in platelet formation and function. Mutations in SLFN14 are associated with an inherited thrombocytopenia with excessive bleeding.
