General description

Elemental sulfur exists in thirty different solid allotropes of which orthorhombic sulfur is the only thermodynamically stable form under normal temperature and pressure. It dissolves in a number of organic solvents and forms a large number of oxyacids. Sulfur is generally highly reactive; the S8 ring of elemental sulfur is easily broken by a number of nucleophilic reactants. The hydroxyl ions react with S at about 100oC.

Application

  • Electrochemical Applications: Key component in Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries, offering higher energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries; Semiconductor Sensitization of thin films (CdS/CdSe/ZnS) that enhance solar cell efficiency.

  • Synthesis and Catalysts: Employed in the development of various catalysts due to its reactivity; Precursor in Reactions (sulfurization of metals and compounds).

Features and Benefits

•High Purity: 99.998% purity ensures minimal contamination, consistency and reproducibility in manufacturing processes. Ideal for sensitive applications, crucial for performance. In applications like Li-S batteries and solar cells, trace metals can negatively impact performance and stability.
•Versatile Reactivity: Can participate in a wide range of chemical reactions, useful for synthesis and catalysis.
•Tailorable Properties: Properties can be modified for specific applications, enhancing its functionality.

Low-dimensional materials usually exhibit mechanical properties from those of their bulk counterparts. Here, we show in two-dimensional (2D) rhenium disulfide (ReS2) that the fracture processes are dominated by a variety of previously unidentified phenomena, which are not present in bulk

The newly prepared complex [Pd(IPr*(OMe))(cin)(Cl)] provides high catalytic activity for carbon-sulfur cross-coupling reactions. Nonactivated and deactivated aryl halides were successfully coupled with a large variety of aryl- and alkylthiols using this well-defined palladium N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex.
