General description

Tetrabromophenol blue is an acid-sensitive triphenylmethane dye widely employed as an industrial dye for food, drugs, cosmetics, and laboratory indicators. It belongs to the group of sulfonephthalein acid-base indicators. It is commercially available as a sodium salt.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Tetrabromophenol Blue sodium salt has two tautomeric forms that are differently coloured: blue at pH > 4.6 and yellow at pH < 3, and is thus employed as a pH indicator.
