General description

Triosmium dodecacarbonyl is a high-purity (98%) organometallic compound available in powder or crystalline form, widely used as a precursor in solution and vapor deposition techniques. It features three osmium atoms bridged by twelve carbonyl ligands, offering excellent volatility and thermal stability for thin films and nanomaterials. It is primarily used in the development of energy materials, inorganic catalysts, and in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes. These applications make it especially valuable in catalysis research and semiconductor manufacturing.

Application

Triosmium dodecacarbonyl can be used:
  • A precursor in the fabrication of thin films and nanostructures. Its decomposition properties are exploited in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques to deposit osmium-containing layers with potential uses in electronics and catalysis.
  • A precursor for the synthesis of various osmium-based catalysts. Its ability to form stable complexes with different ligands allows for the development of catalysts for specific chemical transformations.

Features and Benefits

  • High Purity and Crystallinity: Typically offered with >98% purity.
  • Photochemically Active: Under UV or visible light, it releases CO ligands to form reactive intermediates such as Os₃(CO)₁₁
  • Solubility in Organic Solvents: Soluble in chlorinated solvents, ethers, and aromatic hydrocarbons.
