General description

2-Fluoro-3-methylpyridine, also known as 2-fluoro-3-picoline, can be prepared by reacting 2-amino-3-methylpyridine and 40% fluoroboric acid.2 The signs of the long range coupling constants of 2-fluoro-3-methylpyridine have been obtained by double and triple resonance techniques.

Application

2-Fluoro-3-methylpyridine may be used in the preparation of:
  • 2-phenyl-3-methylpyridine
  • 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylpyridine
  • 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-methylpyridine
  • 2-fluoronicotinic acid
