General description

4′-Acetamido-2′-methylacetophenone (4-acetamido-2-methylacetophenone) can be prepared by treating m-methylacetanilide with acetyl chloride in the presence of aluminum chloride in carbon disulfide.

Application

4′-Acetamido-2′-methylacetophenone may be used in the preparation of 4-amino-2-methylacetophenone by acid hydrolysis.
