General description
Sodium hydride can be easily formed by reacting sodium metal with hydrogen gas at elevated temperatures. NaH is highly sensitive to moisture and air. It may be used as a strong reducing agent in the deintercalation of topotactic oxide. The crystal structure constitutes of a cubic Na with interstitial hydride ions. Sodium hydride exhibits a high gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity.
Application
Direct intercalation into C60 results in the superconducting material (NaH)4C60.
Packaging
Packed in plastic bag, which is soluble at 45-60 °C in hydrocarbons, THF and dioxane.
