Application

Trimethylamine can be used as:
  • A base in dehydrochlorinations, nucleophilic substitutions, 1,4-additions, and aldol-type condensation reactions.
  • A reactant for the preparation of trimethylamine-based dicationic ionic liquids for the extraction of phenolic compounds from oil mixtures.

General description

Trimethylamine is a tertiary amine used as a versatile building block in organic synthesis to produce choline chloride, surfactants and solvents, rubber chemicals, tetramethylammonium hydroxide, cationic starches, phase transfer catalysts, ion-exchange resins, and some basic dyes.
