Application

Ketjenblack EC-600JD is widely used in numerous antistatic and conductive purposes for research and development. Commonly, Ketjenblack EC-600JD is used as a support for electrocatalysts in the electrodes of fuel cells. The high surface area of Ketjenblack EC-600JD, along with its capability to create conductive networks, makes it a great choice for supporting nanoparticle catalysts. Ketjenblack serves as a flexible base for creating catalyst composites: for example, catalyst nanoparticles can be dispersed and deposited onto the Ketjenblack carbon, or the catalyst can be grown directly on the Ketjenblack carbon. This adaptability is boosted by Ketjenblack′s thermal stability, which accommodates various synthesis techniques involving heat treatment or annealing even to 1000 °C without affecting the material′s integrity or conductivity. This thermal resilience is particularly useful in oxides, nitrides, and ceramic catalysts, which often benefit from high-temperature processing. In the production of battery electrodes, especially those incorporating nanoparticle cathode materials or organic cathode materials, Ketjenblack EC-600JD proves beneficial. When used in minor proportions (around 5 wt%), it significantly enhances the electronic conductivity of the electrode film, which boosts battery efficiency. Moreover, Ketjenblack EC-600JD is a widely recognized choice for anti-static enhancements in polymer composites. Its high surface area allows it to establish percolation networks even at low weight fractions (below 2 wt% when adequately dispersed), thereby minimizing changes to the mechanical and rheological properties of the polymer. Dispersing Ketjenblack EC-600JD can present challenges, especially within viscous mediums. For instance, when applied in battery electrodes, it is advisable to thoroughly disperse Ketjenblack EC-600JD into the solvent before adding the PVDF binder or cathode active substances to minimize the formation of carbon clusters in the final product.
