Brassicasterol is a plant sterol, sharing similar structure with cholesterol. It is obtained through the dietary sources, including sea food.
Application
- Deciphering the effect of phytosterols on Alzheimer′s disease and Parkinson′s disease: the mediating role of lipid profiles: This research demonstrates the neuroprotective potential of phytosterols, including Brassicasterol, in modulating lipid profiles to mitigate symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer′s and Parkinson′s (Guo et al., 2024).

Biochem/physiol Actions
Brassica sterol in cerebrospinal fluid might serve as an indicator for Alzheimer′s disease. It is found in rapeseed oil. Brassicasterol is thus, useful in identifying brassica oil and contamination of rapeseed and canola oil in others. Plant sterols can penetrate through the blood brain barrier.
