General description
bis(16:0 PE)-DTPA (Gd) (bis(1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine)-N-N′-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (gadolinium salt)) is a lipidic gadolinium complex, with four units of palmitic acid. The diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) is chelated to gadolinium ion.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Gadolinium (Gd) has magnetic moment property and is potent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent. Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid attached to phosphatidylethanolamine (DTPA-PE) conjugated with Gd to form vesicles or liposomes improves the relaxivity of the Gd-DTPA complex while imaging. Targeted liposomes with Gd-DTPA (gadolinium-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid) facilitate tumor visualization and imaging.
