General description

NBD PG is a phosphatidylglycerol (PG) lipid labeled with the 7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl (NBD) fluorophore. Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is localized to alveoli and is mostly found in the pulmonary surfactant.

Biochem/physiol Actions

7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl (NBD) labeled fluorescence probes play an important role in the study of model membranes. NBD labeled phosphatidylglycerol (PG) serves as a fluorescent substrate in the enzyme assays. PG contributes to the protection against viral infection and is known to be involved in the inflammatory mechanism.

To investigate the effect of fluorescent probe on the properties of membranes, we studied model membranes composed of 1,2- dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) and 1-palmitoyl 2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) in the presence and absence of fluorescent probe. Structural analogs of the bioactive lipid 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoglycerol were synthesized with a xylitol polar head group and both diacyl and diether radyl groups. Mass spectral characterization of xylitol phospholipids (PX) was carried out using collisional activation and high-resolution mass measurements of

Lipoteichoic acid (LTA) is an important cell wall component of Gram-positive bacteria. The key enzyme responsible for polyglycerolphosphate lipoteichoic acid synthesis in the Gram-positive pathogen Staphylococcus aureus is the membrane-embedded lipoteichoic acid synthase enzyme, LtaS. It is presumed that LtaS
