General description
C6-NBD Phytosphingosine is a fluorescent analog of the sphingoid compound, phytosphingosine with NBD (2-(4-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-7-yl) aminoethyl) being the fluorescent group. Phytosphingosine is specifically localised to tissues such as skin, kidney, and intestine in animals and decrease in its production may lead to disorders. Phytosphingosine (PHS) is a major a long-chain base in yeast and mammalian cells.
Application
C6-NBD Phytosphingosine N-[6-[(7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]hexanoyl]-phytosphingosine is suitable to study membrane fusion with the help of fForster resonance energy transfer (FRET).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phytosphingosine (PHS) is an important component of phytoceramides. PHS metabolism results in the production of sphingolipids and glycerophospholipids.
