General description

Phosphatidylserine (PS), an aminophospholipid is negatively charged and accounts for 2–10% of total cellular lipid. It is located in the membrane leaflets.

Application

18:0 PS has been used to evaluate its affinity to cytochrome c using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technique and in the preparation of phospholipid vesicles. It may be used in the preparation of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) hybrid microbubbles.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylserine (PS) plays a key role in protein kinase C pathways. It also helps in confining the intracellular proteins to membrane leaflets of cytosol.

Polymer-lipid microbubbles (PLBs) are generated by microfluidic flow-focusing devices to form a new class of long-lasting hybrid particles. The specific PLB construct developed is an elastic gas-filled microsphere with a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) shell containing phospholipids conjugated to functionalized polyethyleneglycol (PEG).
