General description

18:1 Phosphatidylethanol (PEth)/1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanol is a sodium salt of modified lipid, wherein C-1, C-2 of glycerol is substituted with 9Z-octadecenolyl and C-3 of glycerol is substituted by phosphoethanol group. This lipid metabolite of ethanol has two oleic acid chains.

Application

18:1 Phosphatidylethanol (PEth)/1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanol may be used:
  • as a standard in liquid chromatography−mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis of PEth in human whole blood
  • as a reference material in quantifying phosphatidylethanol in human blood by liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (LC−HRMS )
  • to incorporate into human high density lipoprotein (HDL) particles to study its effects on the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in cultured human smooth muscle cells

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) obtained from phosphatidylcholine in erythrocytes can acts as an important biomarker for alcohol consumption.
