Application

2-18:0 Lyso PC may be used to study the influence of cholesterol and β-sitosterol on the structure of phosphatidylcholine bilayers. It may also be used as a reference standard for its determination in 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC) formulations by a reverse-phase liquid chromatography charged aerosol detection (RPLC-CAD) technique.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) alters several biological activities in various cell-types, including endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, monocytes, macrophages and T-cells and leads to the development of atherosclerosis and inflammatory diseases. In addition, it also facilitates the activation of many second messengers such as, protein kinase C, extracellular-signal-regulated kinases and protein tyrosine kinases.

General description

2-18:0 Lyso PC is one of the degradation products of 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC).
2-18:0 Lyso PC or lyso-phosphatidylcholine (LPC) is a bioactive proinflammatory lipid produced on pathological response. It contains choline group at its polar head.
