General description

Phosphocholine (PC) is an intermediate of phosphatidylcholine synthesis catalyzed by choline kinase. It is a phosphomonoester and contributes to the membrane phospholipids. 16:0-02:0 PC is an oxidized phospholipid and an analog of platelet activating factor (PAF).

Application

16:0-02:0 PC might be used in liposomes to study the hydrolyzing action of lysosomal phospholipase A2 (LPLA2) on truncated oxidized phosphatidylcholine in vitro.

Biochem/physiol Actions

16:0-02:0 PC acts as a receptor (PAF-R) agonist. Increase in the level of phosphocholine (PC) is observed in Alzheimer′s disease.

Truncated oxidized glycerophospholipids (ox-PLs) are bioactive lipids resulting from oxidative stress. The catabolic pathways for truncated ox-PLs are not fully understood. Lysosomal phospholipase A2 (LPLA2) with phospholipase A and transacylase activities is a key enzyme in phospholipid homeostasis. The present
