Application

1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[methoxy(polyethylene glycol)-1000] (14:0 PEG1000 PE) is suitable for use in lipid aggregates to characterize and study its use as a coating and a carrier in capillary electrophoresis. It might be used to prepare sterically stabilized liposome and study its characteristics by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method.

Biochem/physiol Actions

1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[methoxy(polyethylene glycol)-1000] (14:0 PEG1000 PE) is useful in preparing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-stabilized lipid aggregates, which serve as model membranes in biotechnical and pharmaceutical applications. PEG conjugated lipids improve liposome packing in the water/hydrocarbon interface. PEGs of molecular mass less than or equal to 5000 is preferred for vesicle coating serving for efficient delivery of the drug.

PEG-stabilized lipid aggregates are a promising new class of model membranes in biotechnical and pharmaceutical applications. CE techniques, field-flow fractionation, light scattering, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), and microscopic techniques were used to study aggregates composed of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleyl-sn-glycero-phosphatidylcholine (POPC) and PEG-lipid

Synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering analysis of the bilayer structure of a pharmacologically relevant sterically stabilized liposome system is presented. Describing the electron density profile of the bilayer with the superposition of Gaussian functions, the contribution of the poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)
