General description

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies are crucial for the body’s defense against allergens and parasites, serving as a key indicator of allergic sensitization. When an individual encounters an allergen, the immune system generates specific IgE antibodies that bind to high-affinity receptors on mast cells and basophils. Upon subsequent exposure to the same allergen, this binding triggers the release of histamines and other inflammatory mediators. Therapeutic proteins and vaccines can also provoke an immune response characterized by the production of IgE antibodies. Measuring the immunogenicity of these substances is vital for evaluating their safety and efficacy. Elevated IgE levels can signal an increased risk of hypersensitivity reactions, complicating treatment outcomes. Understanding IgE immunogenicity is essential for developing new drugs and vaccines, as it helps identify potential reactions and informs the design of therapies aimed at minimizing adverse effects.
