General description
Histones are highly conserved proteins that serve as the structural scaffold for the organization of nuclear DNA into chromatin. Histone modifications regulate DNA transcription, repair, recombination, and replication. The most commonly studied modifications are acetylation, phosphorylation, methylation, and ubiquitination. These modifications can alter local chromatin architecture, or recruit trans-acting factors that recognize specific histone modifications (the "histone code" hypothesis). A number of studies have implicated ubiquitinated H2B in heterochromatic gene silencing and in the control of gene expression of several yeast genes.
~25 kDa
Immunogen
Epitope: Ubiquityl Lys120
Immunogen used was a branched peptide corresponding to the ubiquitination site on human H2B.
Application
Anti-Ubiquityl-Histone H2B Antibody, clone 56 is a Mouse Monoclonal Antibody for detection of Ubiquityl-Histone H2B also known as H2BUb, Histone H2B (ubiquityl), HIST1H2B & has been validated in WB.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Based on sequence homology, broad species cross-reactivity is expected.
Recognizes histone H2B when it is ubiquitinated at Lys120 but not H2B in its unmodified state, or ubiquitin unconjugated to H2B. Mr ~25 kDa.

The inhibition of transcriptional elongation plays an important role in gene regulation in metazoans, including C. elegans. Here, we combine genomic and biochemical approaches to dissect a role of ZFP-1, the C. elegans AF10 homolog, in transcriptional control. We show that ZFP-1

The Spt-Ada-Gcn5-acetyltransferase (SAGA) complex was discovered from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and has been well characterized as an important transcriptional coactivator that interacts both with sequence-specific transcription factors and the TATA-binding protein TBP. SAGA contains a histone acetyltransferase and a ubiquitin protease.

Post-translational histone modifications play important roles in regulating chromatin structure and function. Histone H2B ubiquitination and deubiquitination have been implicated in transcriptional regulation, but the function of H2B deubiquitination is not well defined, particularly in higher eukaryotes. Here we report
