Gene Information

human ... PAX5(5079)

General description

Pax5, also known as B-cell-specific transcription factor (BASP), and encoded by the gene Pax5/Pax-5, plays a role in B cell differentiation and neural development and spermatogenesis. Pax5 regulates the expression of CD19 a B lymphoid specific target gene. Additionally, Pax5 interacts with ETS1 and alters its DNA binding abilities and it interacts with DAXX and TLE4. Pax5 is localized to the nucleus. Pax5 is expressed at early B-cell differentiation and in the developing CNS during development. In the adult it is expressed in the testis. Pax5 is also involved in B-cell related diseases and lymphomas and most recently was shown to be the controlling factor of the “Z” protein BZLF1 which controls the latent to lytic switch of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in humans.
~42 kDa observed
