Description

General description

A zwitterionic detergent (zwittergent^®) containing an aromatic core that has been demonstrated to stabilize and solubilize integral membrane proteins by breaking aggregates. Useful for protein analysis and characterization by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry techniques. Reported to be superior to CHAPS (Cat. No. 220201) in solubilizing an ion-channel protein and a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR). In combination with thiourea and urea, also reported to improve the recovery of hydrophobic proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana.
