General description
Fibronectin is a glycoprotein belonging to the extracellular matrix (ECM) protein family. Fibronectin contains two polypeptides (α and β chains) linked by two disulfide bonds near the carboxyl termini to form a dimer.Native fibronectin purified from human plasma. Effective agent for promoting attachment of cells to commonly-used culture substrates.
Application
The human plasma fibronectin has been used for coating surfaces such as poly-l-lysine (PLL)-coated nanochips, polyacrylamide (PAAm) hydrogel substrates, glass slides and more, providing a substrate for the adhesion and culture of cells in various experimental setups.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Human fibronectin protein plays crucial roles in various cellular behaviors such as cell attachment, migration, embryogenesis, wound healing, tissue integrity, and malignant processes. One of the key features enabling fibronectin to support cell adhesion is the presence of the Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) tripeptide. It has been extensively studied in areas like fibronectin coating on polystyrene (PS) and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) surfaces. Additionally, fibronectin has been the subject of significant research regarding its involvement in regulating processes such as differentiation-to-growth switching, tubulin monomer growth, cell cycle status, cell spreading, and motility.
