General description
Recombinant, human GSK-3β fused at the N-terminus to a His•Tag sequence and expressed in E. coli. Glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) is a serine/threonine kinase that was first characterized by its role in intermediary metabolism. GSK-3β is a dual-specificity kinase that is important role in insulin- and Wnt-mediated cellular signaling events. In Alzheimer′s disease GSK-3β is reported to affect microtubule stability via the phosphorylation of microtubule associated protein, Tau. Other known substrates include glycogen synthase, p90rsk, c-Jun, and CREB. MW: 53,000-56,000
Biochem/physiol Actions
1 µg GSK-3β maximally phosphorylates 100 ng Tau protein in 30 min in an in vitro kinase assay at 30°C, pH 7.5
Physical form
Lyophilized from 0.1 M NH₄CO₃.
Preparation Note
Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze (-70°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 months at -70°C.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma) coactivator-1alpha (PGC-1alpha) is a highly regulated transcriptional coactivator that coordinates energy metabolism in mammals. Misregulation of PGC-1alpha has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several human diseases, including diabetes, obesity, and neurological disorders. We identified
