General description

Toluene, an aromatic hydrocarbon similar to benzene but considered much less toxic, is widely employed as an organic solvent. It can be used as a mobile-phase solvent or extraction solvent in gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (LC).

Application

Toluene can be used as a:
  • Component of the pressurized liquid solvent used in the extraction method for the determination of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables.
  • Extractive solvent in a DLLME-derivatization procedure for the reliable determination of 18 biogenic amines in beers.
