General description
Staphylococcus aureus is cocci-shaped Gram-positive bacteria that is the causative agent of multiple human infections, including bacteremia, infective endocarditis, skin and soft tissue infections. Although S. aureus is not always pathogenic but is a common cause of skin infections such as abscesses, respiratory infections, and food poisoning. Pathogenic strains often promote infections by producing potent protein toxins and expressing cell-surface proteins that bind and inactivate antibodies. Its mechanisms for evasion of the host immune response include the production of an antiphagocytic capsule, sequestering of host antibodies or antigen masking by Protein A, biofilm formation, intracellular survival, and blocking chemotaxis of leukocytes. Infection by S.aureus involves colonization, local infection, systemic dissemination and/or sepsis, metastatic infection, and toxinosis.
Specificity
Clone STAPH 11-248.2 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically detects Staphylococcus aureus. It does not display any cross-reactivity with Streptococcus sp., Mycoplasma sp., or Corynebacteria sp.
Immunogen
UV-inactivated Staphylococcus aureas cells (ATCC# 29740).
Application
Anti-Staphylococcus aureus, clone STAPH 11-248.2, Cat. No. MAB930-I, is a mouse monoclonal antibody that detects Staphylococcus aureus and is tested for use in ELISA.
