General description

E1B 55 kDa protein (UniProt: P03243; also known as E1B-55K; E1b55K, E1B protein, large T-antigen, E1B-495R) of Human adenovirus C serotype 5 (Genome ID: AC_000008.1). Human adenovirus is a common pathogen that causes mainly respiratory, gastrointestinal, and eye infections in humans. However, it can cause significant morbidity and mortality in young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. Adenovirus 5 belongs to the Adenoviridae family of non-enveloped viruses that are characterized by linear, double-stranded DNA genomes. Their capsid is an icosahedron that contains at least 12 different viral proteins. Adenovirus 5 is commonly used for gene transfer experiments and anticancer therapy. It can harbor large genes in its genome incorporated via homologous recombination techniques. E1B-55 kDa protein is a multifunctional protein and it is a major regulator of viral replication and plays a role in virus-mediated cell transformation by interfering with the host intrinsic and innate immunity. E1B-55 kDa protein is involved in the SUMO-dependent degradation of certain cellular antiviral factors. It acts as a small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO)-1 ligase for p53 which is a major regulator of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. It can also repress IFN-stimulated genes. Immunogen

Full length, recombinant human Adenovirus-5 E1B-55 kDa protein

Application

Quality Control Testing

Evaluated by Western Blotting in lysates from HeLa cells infected with human Adenovirus 5.

Western Blotting Analysis(WB): A 1:10,000 dilution from a representative lot detected Adenovirus 5 E1B 55 kDa protein in lysates from HeLa cells infected with human Adenovirus 5, but not in lysate from uninfected HeLa cells.

Tested Applications

Western Blotting Analysis: A representative lot detected Adenovirus-5 E1B-55 kDa protein in lysates from HeLa cells infected with Adenovirus type 5, but not in wildtype cells. (Data courtesy of Dr. Patrick Hearing, (Stony Brook University, New York).
