General description

Mauthner cells, large, identifiable neurons in the vertebrate brain, play a crucial role in the escape response that can be triggered by abrupt or threatening events. These cells are known for their long axons that project caudally in the spinal cord in the vicinity of motoneuron cell bodies and allow for rapid transmission of signals. These cells are characterized by their prominent expression of neurofilaments that provides structural support to their long axons and are often used as a marker to identify these neurons. Neurofilaments in Mauthner cell are important for maintaining the structural integrity of these large neurons and facilitate the transport of organelles and proteins along the axon. These cells exhibit mixed type of synaptic contacts with electrical and chemical synapses and large myelinated club endings. They have been used for a wide range of studies, including simultaneous recordings from the presynaptic and postsynaptic regions. When these cells are activated, the extracellular currents associated with their action potential are reported to produce a negative field potential that can be as large as 20-40 mV close to the axon hillock. Clone 3A10 is suitable for use in multiple applications, including Western Blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and immunofluorescence and displays reactivity in multiple species. Biochem/physiol Actions

Clone 3A10 is a mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically detects Neurofilament associated antigen. The antibody labels a subset of hindbrain spinal cord projecting neurons such as Mauthner neurons.

Physical form

Purified mouse monoclonal antibody IgG1 in buffer containing 0.1 M Tris-Glycine (pH 7.4), 150 mM NaCl with 0.05% sodium azide.

Preparation Note

0.5 mg/mL. Please refer to guidance on suggested starting dilutions and/or titers per application and sample type.
Recommended storage: +2°C to +8°C.

Other Notes

Concentration: Please refer to the Certificate of Analysis for the lot-specific concentration.
