Gene Information
human ... PON1(5444)
General description
Serum paraoxonase/arylesterase 1 (PON 1), also known as Aromatic esterase 1 (A-esterase 1) or K-45 or Serum aryldialkylphosphatase 1, and encoded by the gene name PON1 or PON, is an esterase and lactonase that is synthesized in the liver and secreted into blood, associated exclusively with high density lipoproteins that belongs to the paraoxonase family. PON1 hydrolyzes the toxic metabolites of a variety of organophosphorus insecticides. This protein has been implicated in protection from atherosclerosis. PON 1 possesses both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Protecting LDL and HDL from lipid peroxidation, PON 1 degrades specific oxidized cholesteryl esters and oxidized phospholipids contained in lipoproteins. PON1 is expressed in liver, but not in heart, brain, placenta, lung, skeletal muscle, kidney or pancreas. Mutations in PON1 have been associated with Microvascular complications of diabetes 5.
~40 kDa observed. Uncharacterized bands may be observed in some lysate(s).

Preparation Note
Stable for 1 year at -20°C from date of receipt.
Handling Recommendations: Upon receipt and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
Note: Variability in freezer temperatures below -20°C may cause glycerol containing solutions to become frozen during storage.

Analysis Note
Evaluated by Western Blotting in human fetal kidney, human ovary cancer, human fetal liver, and human plasma lysates.
Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:10,000-50,000 dilution of this antibody detected PON1 in human fetal kidney, human ovary cancer, human fetal liver, and human plasma lysates.
