General description

Steviol, a diterpenoiic carboxylic alcohol is an aglycone of sweet glycosides which is accumulated in Stevia rebaudiana. ent-kaurenoic acident-KA undergoes hydroxylation reaction in presence of molecular oxygen and NADPH, to yield steviol.

Application

Steviol may have been used as reference standard to compare retention time and UV spectra in HPLC analysis for the quantification of steviol in Aconitum heterophyllum plant extract.

The diterpenoic compound steviol (ent-kaur-16-en-13-ol-19-oic acid) is the aglycone of sweet glycosides accumulated in Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni. This compound is the hydroxylated form of ent-kaurenoic acid (ent-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid; ent-KA). The hydroxylation of ent-KA to form steviol requiring NADPH and molecular

The effect of photoperiodism on steviol glycoside (SVgly) accumulation was investigated in Stevia rebaudiana. Topped plants were cultivated to develop new branches under a 16h or 8h photoperiod. During different ontogenetic phases, leaves, stems, lateral shoots, roots and reproductive organs

Stevia rebaudiana leaves contain non-cariogenic and non-caloric sweeteners (steviol-glycosides) whose consumption could exert beneficial effects on human health. Steviol-glycosides are considered safe; nonetheless, studies on animals highlighted adverse effects attributed to the aglycone steviol. The aim of the present study
