General description

Rhein is an active component of rhubarb (Rheum officinale), a medicinal herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is known to exhibit antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities.

Application

Rhein may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in rat plasma and rhubarb roots, dock flowers and senna leaves by column-switching high-performance liquid chromatography and normal-phase high performance liquid chromatography, respectively.
