General description

2-(Methylthio)ethanol (2-MTE) is a methyl thioether derivative. This volatile sulfur compound is found in port wines. Its conformational analysis based on matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy and ab initio molecular orbital calculations indicates that the conformation is stabilized by intramolecular interactions.

Other Notes

For the preparation of N-[2-(methylthio)ethoxycarbonyl)-amino acids (MTC-amino acids) which are useful intermediates for peptide synthesis
