General description
This proficiency testing sample is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. All information regarding the use of this material can be found in the reporting packet supplied for each sample.
Preparation Note
The PT sample size provided is 33 g of soil. The soil has been chemically stabilized with 6 mL of methanol to minimize degradation of the sample. The PT sample has been sized to 100 mesh.
The sample has been intentionally prepared with an apparent headspace.
Sample Preparation
The sample is to be extracted using the solid waste method for sediment/soil using methanol as the extraction solvent.
Prior to mixing and sub-sampling of the soil should be done at 4° C to minimize volatilization of the contents.
Do not warm contents to room temperature prior to sampling. Mixing of the sample should occur in the vial and be performed as quickly as possible.
Afterwards, tightly reseal the vial ensuring there is no sample remaining between the vial rim, threads and cap.
Report on a wet weight basis, do not correct results for moisture content.

Other Notes
Proficiency testing samples are presented as single blind. No values for the samples are released until the testing period concludes. Values of analytes vary lot to lot.
