General description
Ammonium bicarbonate is bicarbonate salt of the ammonium ion. In addition to being a source of ammonia, it is also commonly used as a mild base. Bicarbonate of ammonia appears as granular crystals and is easily soluble in water. In the synthesis of catalysts, ammonium bicarbonate is used.
Application
Ammonium bicarbonate is used:
- As a mineral fuel to prepare alumina-zirconia nano powders by sol-gel combustion.
- Precipitating agent in the synthesis of γ-Al2O3 sample (γ-Al2O3-1), that is used for the removal of fluoride from aqueous solution.

A highly efficient, reversible hydrogen storage-evolution process has been developed based on the ammonium bicarbonate/formate redox equilibrium over the same carbon-supported palladium nanocatalyst. This heterogeneously catalyzed hydrogen storage system is comparable to the counterpart homogeneous systems and has shown fast
