Application

L-Arginine hydrochloride has been used as a test compound for examining the impact of L-NG-monomethyl arginine (L-NMMA) and L-NG-nitro arginine (L-NOARG) on non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic relaxations of mouse anococcygeus muscle. It has also been used as a standard test compound for investigating whether the absolute concentration of a protein within a mixture of other proteins can be measured with SI traceability.

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Arginine enhances the urine urea excretion and has increased values for glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and P-amino hippurate (PAH) clearance in rats with remnant kidneys.
Substrate of nitric oxide synthase, which is converted to citrulline and nitric oxide (NO). Induces insulin release by a nitric oxide-dependent mechanism.
