General description
Hematoxylin stain is basically used for staining fixed tissue. Weigert applied this procedure to myelin staining marks. Copper and chromium salts (CrF3) were later introduced in order to intensify the coloration, where iron hematoxylins replaced simple hematoxylin staining. If used before microdissection it significantly diminishes the amount of extractable DNA, hence leading to unreliable data.
