General description

Collagen is a major component of several human tissues, mainly of bone. Bovine collagen is biodegradable and was first obtained from a fresh calf skin.
Type V Collagen provides structure and strength to connective tissue and is found in many places in the body, especially skin, lung, intestinal walls and walls of blood vessels. This Type V Collagen product is isolated from placenta and is purified using a multi-step process with a final purity of >95%. Type V collagen forms a triple helix composed of a Alpha 1(V)2 Alpha 2(V) heterotrimer.

Type V Collagen is typically used as a thin coating on tissue culture surfaces. This product is generally used in vitro as a substrate scaffold to enhance cell attachment, adherence and proliferation. Type V collagen may be used to culture a variety of cell types.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Collagen acts as a powerful marker for regeneration. Bovine collagen injections are not advisable to individuals undergoing a treatment with steroids. It is used in the deletion of telopeptide allogenic units.

Preparation Note

The product is supplied as a sterile solution at 0.5 mg per vial at approximately 0.15 to 0.30 mg/ml in 100 mM acetic acid.
