General description

Triton X-100 is a non-ionic surfactant that aids the recovery of membrane-bound proteins under mild non-denaturing conditions.

Application

Suitable for extraction of membrane-bound proteins

Biochem/physiol Actions

Triton X-100 compromises the integrity of the lipid bilayer by disrupting the polar head group on the hydrogen bonding. The detergent monomer inserts itself into the lipid bilayer resulting in over-permeabilization and disruption of the cell structure.
Widely used non-ionic surfactant for recovery of membrane components under mild non-denaturing conditions.
