The pathogenesis of Acanthamoeba keratitis begins when Acanthamoeba trophozoites bind specifically to mannosylated glycoproteins upregulated on the surfaces of traumatized corneal epithelial cells. When Acanthamoeba castellanii trophozoites are grown in methyl-alpha-D-mannopyranoside, they are induced to secrete a novel 133-kDa protein

The development of efficient and safe methods for in vivo gene transfer is central to the success of gene therapy. Recombinant adenoviral vectors, although highly efficient, are limited by the host immune response, potential safety hazards due to obligatory cotransfer

The serglycin proteoglycan is best known as a hematopoietic cell granule proteoglycan. It has been found that serglycin is synthesized by endothelial cells, is localized to cytoplasmic vesicles, and is constitutively secreted. Serglycin messenger RNA in human umbilical vein endothelial
