General description

Annexin I belongs to the annexin superfamily. It is associated with cellular membranes in the presence of Ca2+. The protein has a large conserved core domain (~30kDa) required for calcium and phospholipid association. This gene is widely expressed in tissues.

Immunogen

mixture of native membrane proteins from human bone tissues, which includes whole native annexin proteins.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-Annexin I antibody produced in mouse has been used in western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Annexin I is an anti-inflammatory factor and plays an important role in neuroprotection. It is associated with the removal of apoptotic cells, protects from ischemia-like injury and prevents hepatic inflammation. Annexin I also protects against the breakdown of blood-brain-barrier in Alzheimer′s disease. It is involved in the homeostasis of innate immune system by mediating immune cells (for instance, neutrophils and macrophages).

Physical form

Solution in 0.01M phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
