Gene Information
human ... SOX8(30812)
General description
Sox8 belongs to the SoxE family of transcription factors that are critical for development of neural crest cells. The Sox gene family has been implicated in a number of developmental disorders.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide directed towards the C terminal region of human SOX8
Application
Anti-SOX8 antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for western blotting at a concentration of 1 μg/ml.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Sox8 is expressed in Sertoli cells and regulates the spermatogenesis and spermatogenic cycle. Deficiency of Sox8 results in degeneration of adipose tissue and mild osteopenia.
Physical form
Purified antibody supplied in 1x PBS buffer with 0.09% (w/v) sodium azide and 2% sucrose.
Other Notes
Synthetic peptide located within the following region: ASPTETGPPRPHIKTEQPSPGHYGDQPRGSPDYGSCSGQSSATPAAPAGP

Neural crest cells are the primary innovation that led to evolution of the vertebrates, and transcription factors of the SoxE family (Sox8, Sox9 and Sox10) are among the central players regulating the development of these cells. In all vertebrates examined

Sox8 encodes a high-mobility group transcription factor that is widely expressed during development. Sox8, -9 and -10 form group E of the Sox gene family which has been implicated in several human developmental disorders. In contrast to other SoxE genes

Although the transcription factor Sox8 is broadly expressed during embryogenesis in developing ectodermal and mesodermal tissues, mice develop surprisingly normally in the absence of Sox8. Phenotypes in adult Sox8-deficient mice include mild osteopenia, late-onset male infertility, and reduced weight. We
