bovine epidermal keratin

Biochem/physiol Actions

Reacts with cytokeratins 13, 15 and 16. Labels non-keratinizing squamous epithelium, the basal layer of pseudostratified epithelium and transitional epithelium. Does not react with normal epidermis or most simple epithelial cells. Reacts with all squamous cell carcinomas tested, but not with adenocarcinomas. A subset of breast carcinoma is detected with this antibody.

Our knowledge of the etiology and pathogenesis of skin diseases characterized by abnormal growth is relatively limited. Even more important, still very little is known of how epidermopoeisis is controlled in normal epidermis. There is no cure for skin diseases

In normal breast tissue and in noninvasive breast carcinomas, various keratin-14 antibodies were reactive predominantly with the basal/myoepithelial cell layer, although mainly in terminal and larger ducts luminal cells sometimes also were stained. A similar reaction pattern was found with

The immunohistochemical reactivities of 69 cases of breast carcinoma were examined on methacarn-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections using eight different monoclonal antibodies which recognize one or a few keratin polypeptides. In the normal breast, the monoclonal antibodies RPN1162, RPN1165 and AE1 stained

Human eccrine sweat gland ducts and benign and malignant eccrine poromas were studied for the expression of various cytokeratins (CK) and vimentin by applying immunoperoxidase and immunofluorescence microscopy to frozen or paraffin-embedded sections, and using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting.

The expression of cytokeratin polypeptides in squamous metaplasia of the human uterine cervix was investigated by immunocytochemical labeling with polypeptide-specific antibodies against cytokeratins. Immunofluorescence microscopic examination of cervical tissues using various monoclonal antibodies indicated that squamous cervical metaplasia expresses a
